Illinois State University will host Redbird Philanthropy Week, September 15-19, offering students meaningful opportunities to engage as Redbird philanthropists. The weeklong celebration is designed to strengthen Illinois State’s culture of giving by highlighting the powerful impact philanthropy has on the Redbird experience.
Jillian Nelson, senior managing director of annual giving and philanthropy engagement, explained why Redbird Philanthropy Week is such an important and exciting event for the Redbird community.
“Redbird Philanthropy Week is the perfect opportunity for RSOs, programs, and affinity groups to begin to demonstrate how private giving makes an impact on the Redbird experience,” Nelson said.
There will be opportunities all week to engage in philanthropic activities. Monday, September 15, students are encouraged to stop by an informational booth at Schroeder Plaza from noon-1 p.m. to learn more about Illinois State giving, earn prizes, and meet Pawfficer Korg.
On Thursday, September 18, students are invited to attend the in-person philanthropy quest between 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on the Quad between Edwards and Fell Hall (Look for the bounce house!). The quest will be a short experience through Redbird philanthropy designed to teach students about the importance of giving. Lunch will be provided while supplies last, and there will be an opportunity to write a note of thanks to a Redbird donor.
When asked what she hopes students will take away from Redbird Philanthropy Week, Nelson said, “Besides some fabulous prizes, we hope they are able to walk away with awareness of what philanthropy is and the many experiences and services it brings to ISU.”
According to Nelson, over 14,000 donors make a gift each year to make an impact, like the more than 4,600 student scholarships, thanks to selfless donors’ generosity.
“We realize not all students are in a position to give during their time as a Redbird,” Nelson said. “Redbird Philanthropy Week is not really about giving as a student, it is about gratitude as a student. A chance to celebrate all the ways donors have paved the way and made excellence possible at Illinois State University.”
